Update after 2 weeks: Definitely a keeper. Great photo and video quality (and both the birds and squirrels have found it). Some reviews complain that the storage of photos and video is uselessly low without a subscription. I disagree. I can save the photos and videos to my phone, and then delete them from the cloud storage so there’s room for more. I don’t need to keep them all in the cloud. I still recommend this camera.
Original review after 5 days: Packaging and shipping was great and quick. Connecting the camera and setting up an account was easy. You need to realize that the camera requires connecting their wireless access point directly to your home network router or switch with an Ethernet cable. This will limit, due to cable length, where you can place their wireless transceiver.
The camera must be in range of the transceiver in order to get video from the camera.
I put the camera out on our shed and then had to position the transceiver close enough to get a signal from the camera, but also in reach of the network connection.
The video quality is great; just think ahead and test camera placement gets you video before you anchor it permanently.
My only disappointment is that the birds have yet to find the bird food!
This bird feeder with the camera is so fun! I love being able to watch the birds up close (and the squirrels, raccoons, and mice)! We have it suctioned to our window and it holds very well – even with the weight of a raccoon on it! The app is very cool in that it names the birds/animals that come to visit and even keeps track of how many times each type have visited. The free storage fills up very fast, but you can always save any videos or pics and then delete them from the app, so that the camera can save pics and videos again. The solar panel works great! I don’t even have mine in direct, full sun throughout a large part of the day, but it keeps the camera running consistently. Highly recommend! Great product!!
Assembling the unit was easy. Used the included suction cups to mount to window. The clear roof allows for plenty of light on the subject. There is a hub of sorts which communicates between the network and the camera. The only network connection option is RJ-45 ethernet. The communication with the camera is wireless. Pairing the camera with the app is easy using the QR code. The basic functionality is free so no monthly subscription fees for that, but you can subscribe to the Premium for $49.99/year or $4.99/month. Nice camera video quality and fun to use.
Awesome smart bird feeder with a window mount that keeps my cat entertained for hours!
Super easy to setup and use. The subscription is not required, but the AI can be a bit dodgy without it. Video quality is really good.
Issues:
The bird seed tray could be either deeper, or they could add gravity feed for more bird seed on both sides. Once the local birds discover your feeder (can take a week or so – be patient), you’ll be refilling it every morning.
PLEASE update the app to support GoogleTV’s! Seriously. We’d love to be able to watch the birds on our big screen TVs instead of squinting on our phones. It just can’t be that hard to implement app control via the TV remote. The movement controls on GoogleTV remotes just act like a mouse cursor for web browsing, or just enable left-right-up-down movement for menu selections.
