I purchased the Dual Chamber Compost Bin but the following applies to either the single chamber or dual chamber models. We assembled everything in about 20 – 30 min. It did take additional time beyond this to find the optimal width for my custom spacers using trial and error.
ASSEMBLY
Is much easier with two people…one person to hold the work in progress while the second does the assembly. The clips can be a major challenge to install but is a breeze once you get the feel of it. Orient one leg of the clip in the mating slot (it will not fully seat until both sides click into place) then use a pair of needle-nose pliers grip the free leg at side and twist to bend the leg backward sufficiently to be at or near the edge of the opposing mating hole. Then place your thumb on top of clip and apply pressure to fully seat the clip into the second hole.
SPACERS
The kit does not include spacers for the center rod. This creates two problems impacting smooth rotation of bin(s):
1. The two barrel chambers can rub against each other and/or the tubular support legs as you attempt to spin the chambers.
2. The lever arms intended to allow you to lock either of the chambers in place (i.e. prevent them from spinning) are near ineffective.
To correct this, I used a PCV pipe cutter to cut 3/4″ PVC pipe into three 1/2″ wide rings to act as spacers on each side of the two chambers. (NOTE: use the thinner PVC pipe with 1/8″ wall thickness otherwise the rings will not slide onto the center rod.) This allows the chambers to freely spin without rubbing on each other or rubbing against the support legs. At the same time the spacers maintain a precise positioning of the chambers so that the lever arms securely seat to prevent either chamber from spinning when such is wanted.
Easy to assemble, large capacity. I assembled this by myself and it took less than an hour. The flexible fasteners were a little difficult to get on but I’m sure that someone with more hand strength than I would have no problem. All the tools were provided and I can’t wait to clear off my outdoor area and start composting with this large capacity container. My only complaint is that I thought there would be a spacer between the two tumblers, they tend to not lock properly as they are too close together in the center and the lock doesn’t connect on both sides. I will have to see if I can find something to space them out so that both of them lock at the same time. Delivery was quick and I was happy with that.
Good size,relatively easy assembly
Relatively easy to assemble. Two people would make it easier. The snap clips for the panels are a little tricky at first. Had on end of the drum rod not drilled had stamped marks where it should have been drilled.
