TL;DR – If your recipe rotation has you awkwardly covering casserole dishes with tin foil all the time, you will like this dish.
Ok, so this was the Vine item I was most excited to order so far, and now that I’ve used it, I have mixed feelings. First, the buildup: I love lasagna. I have perfected my method of making lasagna with regular-you’re-supposed-to-boil-them noodles, but I don’t boil them. I put them in dry and pour extra water around the edges of the pan, and they bake into perfect texture noodles in the oven, and the effort to assemble a lasagna is less than 50% of pre-boiling. BUT the dish must be deep (cuz I hate flat lasagna, and cuz it has to hold the extra liquid without spilling) and it must be TIGHTLY COVERED. So this usally means messing with a lot of tin foil on my deep ceramic lasagna dish, which also doesn’t have handles. So I was SUPER EXCITED to see this oversize dish, with handles, and just pop a lid on it??? Dreams of lasagnas dancing in my head. When I got it, it is pretty, for sure. It is not really any wider or longer than a usual 9×13 ceramic dish, just deeper, which fit my needs perfectly. But I was worried, because as other reviewrs mentioned, the lid kind of rocks on the dish. Like it’s a little warped. It also looks like the glaze kind of dripped and pooled on one side of the lid during manufacturing, causing some bumps of glaze that may or may not contribute to it not sitting perfectly on the dish (even if those bumps weren’t there, the warp would still make it rock). It was really hard to take pictures of these issues, but I tried. So I was disappointed, because I was afraid the lid would not seal tightly enough to accomplish cooking my lasagna noodles. How bad are these defects? Well, if I saw this dish in person at a mall department store for the price it’s listed at, I would have thought, “This is obviously defective,” and I would not have bought it. If I had seen it at a discount store, marked down to half the listed price, I would have thought, “This is defective…that’s why it’s here” and *maybe* I still would have bought it.
So….I baked a lasagna. And guess what. The lid sealed in the liquid and cooked the noodles perfectly anyway. In fact, the lasagna was still a little soupy…it was just as effective, maybe even more so, than tin foil usually is, so I should actually use less water next time. And it didn’t boil over like my regular dish usually does. And it cleaned up (in the sink) super easily!
So do you need this? I can definitely see this functioning as both a casserole dish and a replacement for an enamaled dutch oven for braising. I want to try making a pot roast in it. If you often make dishes that need to be tightly covered to bake (casseroles with raw rice in them, my style of lasagna or other dry pasta bakes, scalloped potatoes, meat braises, etc) I think it really could be worth it in the end, although it does feel pricey at first, because you will save time and hassle and $ not having to use tin foil. If you only pull out a 9×13 Pyrex once a year to make brownies, you definitely don’t need this. I think I will enjoy it and use it quite often despite its uneven lid. If it had a perfectly fitting lid…I would LOVE it.

I have nothing bad to say about this casserole dish. I used it immediately after unpacking (it comes really well packed, no chips or anything) and it’s so deep! I made a lasagna for a party and, believe it or not, people commented on how nice the casserole dish looked! I can’t believe it comes with a lid. I love ceramic and stainless cookware because it conducts and keeps heat so well. I had you average pyrex glass lasagna pan but my husband always said “I wish we had something that wasn’t glass….”. He was very happy when I pulled this out. My lasagna cooked evenly, the slices look so well constructed because of how deep the dish is and the lasagna was a hit. Really easy to clean, as most ceramic dishes are. Any caked on cheese wasn’t a match for a soak, and the debris just came right off. I love the size, it’s great for entertaining.
The lid is a bit shifty.
Lasagna is something my family makes regularly. That being the case, I was thrilled to find this pan. Not only is it deep enough for lasagna, but it has a lid! LOVE that! The lid has self-basting drip points which help keep your food moist as it bakes. The white ceramic doesn’t stain, and washes very easily (by hand, or in the dishwasher). The ceramic handles are large enough to provide a secure grip for lifting and maneuvering the pan safely. All that aside, I removed a star because the lid is a bit shifty (doesn’t fit securely in place). A poorly fitting lid won’t properly trap heat and moisture which can cause uneven cooking and/or extended cooking times. Because of that, this pan wouldn’t work well for braising, steaming, etc. That said, my lasagna baked perfectly, so this pan is a keeper! However, if you’re looking for a pan that has a tightly fitted lid, look elsewhere.
