Heavy and well-made
Solid and Powerful, but Loud
This pump is heavy — definitely built to last with its cast-iron body. It’s well-made and does the job efficiently. Just be prepared for the noise; it’s much louder than my other non–cast-iron pump. Overall, strong performance but not the quietest option.
Beast of a pump
This 115V Cast Iron Transfer Pump, 1/2HP Heavy Duty Transfer Water Pump, 1320 GPH Portable Utility Pump with Brass Connectors, for Irrigation, High-Pressure Cleaning, and Draining is a beast. It is heavy and loud but really no different than any other brand of transfer pump of this style. The pump itself is equipped with 3/4″ female ips threads on the inlet and outlet but it comes with 2 well machined 3/4″ male ips by standard male garden hose thread adapters. Having to prime the pump before using is a little pesty but again a standard procedure for this style of transfer pump. There is no on off switch on this pump so be prepared for action as soon as you plug it in. It also comes with a nice long power cord and an extra set of brushes. Overall this pump comes very well packaged, is solidly built and does it’s intended job well and should last for quite some time.
Solid, works, good
Really like this pump. Hasn’t overheated on me yet. I like the weight – solid build. Good throughput. I have had pumps from other manufacturers that overheated or failed after limited use. Nice to have something that works.
Very strong and durable, pumps water very quickly
Heavy, durable and well-built doesn’t even come close to describing this transfer pump. Chances are it will outlive me by decades. It’s made of solid cast iron and is heavy and very sturdy. The threads on the inlet and outlet are tough and won’t strip easily. It’s got a 1/2HP motor that pumps the water out very quickly. This is just the motor, no attachments or hosing but it’s well worth the price.
I used this 1/2 HP cast-iron transfer pump to empty a 1,000-gallon stock tank and move water from rain barrels to garden lines. It primes fast once the housing is filled, and the 3/4 in brass outlet meant my standard hoses threaded on cleanly without leaks. Flow feels true to the rating and the 10 ft cord plus carry handle made repositioning easy.
The trade-off is weight and noise. The cast iron build is reassuringly solid but close to 19 lb, so I set it on a board to keep it stable on soil. It is much louder than my small thermoplastic utility pump, though the power makes up for it when blasting mud off the patio. Thermal protection hasn’t tripped on me, but I avoid continuous duty and give it cool-down breaks. Replaceable brushes are a plus for long-term upkeep.
