Pretty good coffee maker (I would rate it 4.5). I like how little space this takes compared to the other Hamilton beach coffee maker that I had (it started smoking and I was reluctant to buy another HB coffee maker, but liked the design of this one).
Things I like:
1) Coffee from the pot tastes great (use the bold setting)
2) Design. I think this is a perfect design. Takes up little space on the counter, everything looks neat and tidy.
3) Big one: fits under counter and you do not need to move it every time you make coffee. We kept the water to the side for easy access, and the coffee filter area swings out instead of up. Other makers should take note of this.
4) Many brew options
5) No burner (we always seem to get coffee drips leaving marks)
6) Easy to set up touch screen
Things I did not like:
1) It does not use the same fittings for the single brew as the old one which was a disappointment (they are shorter in this model)
2) Doesn’t make great coffee from single serve (was expected as I had the other similar model)
3) Brew time in pot takes pretty long especially on bold. Only a problem when we don’t schedule it.
4) Biggest complaint: Pot only allows 2,4,6,8,10,12 cups. 4 cups is just a little too little for me and my wife. 6 cups is just a waste of coffee. I don’t know why they didn’t do single cups on this. I don’t think most people would change this setting that often that it would be a nuisance. We always set it to 4 cups. If we have company, wouldn’t take long to set it to more even with individual cup settings.
A well-done coffemaker. High quality materials, fit and finish. I’ve used about a week now, pots of coffee stay warm long enough for me to drink all day, without requiring a heater pad. It uses a variety of k-cups/pods, via adapter. The height adapter for the cup is removable for ice brew. There is a single brew adapter that allows for more coffee than a k-cup, a richer taste. There is a strong brew button that raises the temperature of the water if desired. A meter ticks off coffee brewed as it’s brewing. I’ve cycled a lot of single serve and one or two pots a day. It did not come with a mesh pot filter, just the single serve adapters (1 each style). The water container is awkward to grip, tho i’m using it in a linear arrangement for narrow spaces, not on the left side of the machine. It replaced a k*urig supreme duo with thermal carafe that gave up the ghost. Overall this particular FlexBrew is a great coffeemaker so far.
This replaces the similar Hamilton Beach machine that does not have a water reservoir. This one is much nicer. It brews in about half the time, it’s significantly hotter, has a smaller footprint, and is much more modern looking and attractive. I only give it 4 stars because it will not take the biodegradable soft pouch coffee pods. They are not as tall as a plastic pod and the needle on the new machine isn’t as tall as the old one and does not puncture the pods. It still makes coffee as, the water still flows though the permeable pouch but some of it also bubbles out the top puncture hole. When the coffee comes out the top hole it brings grounds up as well, which then flow down and into the cup. I got around that by buying a French press stainless steel filter and cutting it to the same size as the pod holder. It works but now we have to clean that filter every few pods. The other problem is the tray that holds the coffee cup is very loose in its holder. It does not snap in, it’s very unstable and I am afraid it is going to fail and drop my cup. All of that said we are still glad we purchased it. If Hamilton Beach fixed those two things it would be perfect!
I bought the coffee maker to replace another Hamilton Beach maker. I love the fact that the reservoir works for both single cup and pot. No more separate reservoirs. The water heats instantly which surprised me. The carafe is stainless steel, won’t buy glass. It keeps coffee hot longer. It brewed quickly. It’s slimmer than my old, but it’s longer. Barely fits on my coffee maker rolling board. The selection screen is easy to use. My other Hamilton Beach lasted 4 years. I’m hoping this lasts longer.
We absolutely love the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Advanced 5-in-1 w/Thermal Carafe. We’ve been using it multiple times a day for the last month taking advantage of every mode of operation. It makes a very hot single brew but my wife did comment that it’s not as hot brewed in the carafe unless you preheat it with hot water just before brewing. So far it’s been very reliable and the brew time is fairly short compared to our old drip coffee maker. The size is perfect because it takes up less counter space that our old drip coffee maker and it has also eliminated having to have a separate single cup brew machine. Some of the other reviews speak about leakage but so far we haven’t seen any. It does stay in the directions not to fill it above the max line of the water reservoir or leakage may occur. I think the best feature of all is that you can brew a single cup using the filter basket and not having to buy individual K-Cups! All in all, it’s a great unit and I would not hesitate recommending it to anyone.
Works great! It takes a while to make the coffee, but it brews great strong coffee. I am using reusable coffee filters and I love the water tank! It’s a lot easier to fill than the usual pour water into the back tank. It stays hot for hours and since it’s not glass it looks a lot cleaner.
