I purchased the New York lock because of its high quality. Also, the lighted key grabbed my attention. I figured it would come in handy in the dark. When I received the lock, I discovered that it had three keys but no lighted key. I wanted to contacted the company through their email request page and make a complaint. They had a section that indicated that they no longer included the lighted key and that it was discontinued in 2024. All of the information that I obtained regarding the lighted key was in February, 2026. Before submitting the complaint, it was requested that I take pictures and send them along with my complaint. Well, I mainly work from my computer, not my phone. To take pictures from my phone, down load them to my computer, make sure they were in Jepg, png, or pdf, seemed to be a bit too much just to submit a complaint. The problem that I have is that Kryptonite stopped inclulding the lighted key in 2024. I read the information that the lighted key was part of the package in February, 2026. I feel that two (2) years is more than enough time to remove the lighted key information from their advertising. It was extremely misleading. I was tempted to return the lock and purchase one from another company, but no other lock could compare to Kryptonite. It would help customers if Kryptonite and Amazon removed that misleading and incorrect information from the New York lock advertisement. The only reason I gave it four stars was because of the incorrect information regarding the lighted key.
I bought one of these to try first, as the frames of our LectricBikes are rather thick, and the first two locks weren’t long enough, or robust enough, since ebikes seem to be the first choice of bike thieves these days. I’ve had a bike stolen, and I’ve been super cautious since then. This is the second of these locks that I’ve bought, as the first passed muster, and we have two of these bikes. The locks will only go from the frame to a stationary object, when used to lock the bike to that fixed object, but at least they’ll do that. A long version folding lock would also, but they’re more expensive for one which is similarly robust. On the downside, this is probably heavier. We’ll still need to add other protection for the wheels (I’m thinking a frame lock on the rear wheel if it will work with the bike design), but at least this is a good start. It won’t stop a determined thief with the right tools, but at least it would significantly slow him/her down, and make stealing our bikes less attractive.

Heavy but that’s what you pay for toughness. Good keylock (3 keys). No easy frame mount so I carry it in my basket wrapped in a heavy bag and a bungee net. So glad I got the long shackle option!
Great Lock, heavy duty
This is a very heavy duty lock, and the weight is heavier than I thought. Both ends of the U lock which means a tougher time for thieves. This is the best deterrent but if thieves truly want what you are locking they will get it. I also purchased a cable as well to lock front wheel and saddle, bolt cutters would foil this cable but is a deterrent. The price point is okay, and you pay for what you get.
I’ve been using the Kryptonite New York Long Shackle for my bike, and it is a beast. If you are looking for a lock that feels genuinely heavy-duty, this is it.

The lock itself is hefty so be aware this is not a light item. I love the dust cover over the lock. It is easy to use and very secure. I do wish I could have the yellow area in other colors, but that’d just a personal preference. Overall they did it again with another great bike lock!
