Do I need special software?
Nope, Key Light Neo is made to work without software. All controls are built-in, so there's no need to make adjustments in software.
But won't it hurt my eyes?
No! Key Light Neo boasts the same legendary edge-lit architecture you’ll find in all Elgato lights. The LEDs are hidden behind the outer frame and shine inwards across the backplate.
Can I plug it into my dock?
Sure, Key Light Neo works perfectly connected to your USB dock.
How is Key Light Neo better than my lamp or ceiling light?
Household lights are made for houses, not cameras. They’re either too bright or too weak, and give your skin an unnatural color.
How quickly can I get set up?
Get started in as little as a few seconds. Just place Key Light Neo on your monitor, plug it into a USB port, and turn it on. It’s as easy as that—there’s no additional setup or equipment needed.

Excellent, but a little unbalanced
The Neo is very good, excellent temperature range, brightness etc. The only thing is on the curved monitor I mounted them on, they were trying to tip forward as the monitor mounts didn’t quite have the weight or contact area to keep them secure. I got around the issue by taping the power leads to the back of the monitor, which solved the issue. I can see the mounts working more efficiently on a flat monitor where the full width of the mount can contact the monitor.
Overall this is a great product. You can pair a proper light like this with an affordable webcam and you’ll have a better picture than your coworkers and friends who bought an expensive camera without the extra lighting, it’s really impressive.
This key light has USB power and will automatically limit itself based on how it’s connected, so you get a lot of options especially with its detachable cable. I have it connected to the full 15w output but I usually just leave the brightness at about 10% and it’s plenty. It’s got 3 buttons and a dial that let you control the brightness, temperature, and store and load a couple presets easily, as well as turn it on and off. I wish the dial itself was a button to swap functionality between brightness and temperature right there, instead of remembering which side button will do it.
It doesn’t really matter because of the best feature of this device, it was WiFi connectivity. You can pair it to your WiFi and then control it from anything that can run Elgato Control Center (which is every you would expect). This is what I end up doing most of the time, I never have to touch the light and can just open up the settings before I hop in a call and tweak them to suit that call. If you wanted to you could go step further and control it from a stream deck and get physical buttons and knobs off-device which is a really cool integration.
There are a couple of things to be aware of though. The device is a little awkward, it’s meant to be a compact monitor mounted light for ease of use and it is, but it’s topheavy and can be a bit tricky to get balanced right. To mitigate this Elgato have added a sticky layer to the monitor mount which does help.
Because it’s top heavy it likes to fall over while you’re getting it positioned and ready to stick down. Elgato have built it with lightweight plastic which is fine (and probably necessary to keep the weight down) but the dial and buttons are pretty cheap. The knob on the dial popped off for me and hasn’t even fit on quite right since, and on of the buttons got stuck down although it went back to normal after some hard pokes. The body and light were fine though even after a few tumbles.
Also, and this isn’t really exclusive to this product, key lights are bright and facing you. The surface of the light is textured to disperse and soften the light so it’s not a spotlight blaring at you, but it’s definitely a lot of light to look at. If I have a morning meeting or my eyes aren’t adjusted to it, it can be a little uncomfortable to have shining at you.
Despite a few things to be aware of this is an easy recommend if you’re on video a lot. If you want to upgrade your video quality and your own appearance seriously buy this first before you spend a bunch on a camera upgrade. The smart features are also a standout, they sound like a gimmick on a light but when it’s one you might be adjusting on the fly they’re super convenient.
his light is amazing! i love how bright it is and how it doesnt show up in my glasses when im recording. its nice to have manual dials to adjust brightness and color of light as well.
I like the light but it wasn’t clear that if you want to hook it to your computer you cant use it at full power. And with the included cable you can only get to 45%. You have to use a usb-c (not inluded) to get it to 65%. And to get the full 100 you have to connect it to a high watt power brick and use the wireless connection to control it remotely. But with that being said the 45% was plenty bright for what I need.
I needed a light for my live stream. This worked perfectly for me. I can change how bright I need it, and whether I’d like more of a gold or white tint. It mounts fairly easy, and is very stable.
