If there’s a way to do this, I haven’t figured it out. We live in Zone 8b, so we’re usually just having to take the chill off the bedroom/office, which is the coldest room in the house, during the day. What would be ideal is to set this heater on Eco mode (meaning it will turn on and off automatically to maintain the desired set temperature) but have it automatically shut off at bedtime, then come back on about an hour before wake-up time. Even a 12 hours on/12 hours off setting would work for us (say, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on, repeating each day). I think the way the timer works is you set it to turn off after so many hours, but then you have to manually turn the heater back on again. So the drill now is to turn it off manually at bedtime, then turn it back on on waking and wait for the room to warm up again.
One thing I really do like about this heater is that you can run it at 600 watts if the grid goes down and you have to run it off a solar-powered inverter. We’ve learned from experience that 1500-watt appliances are not desirable in such a scenario; if your inverter is not capable of that kind of draw, it will shut off. Even if the inverter can handle the load, at 1500 watts it doesn’t take very long to completely drain your batteries. But I have to say, when we set it on H1 (600 watts constant until you turn it off), it heated the room up to 76F, which was way too hot. We keep the house at 68F during the day but the one bedroom drops a few degrees lower than that, so that’s why we got this heater.
The Eco mode works great. The heater is totally silent, and the warmth it creates is very penetrating and comfortable. After it heats up the room objects in the morning, it stays shut off for the most of the day. We just don’t want it to run all night, when we’ve got the whole-house thermostat set to 66F, because blankets cost a whole heck of a lot less than electricity. One great advantage of this type of heater: unlike a heater with a fan blowing hot air, it doesn’t dry out your eyes.
Good quality at a decent price.
Works like a charm. My only suggestion would be to make the cord longer since it recommends not placing it closer than 3 feet to anything that can burn. Remote works perfectly.
I’ve had this heater for about 3 weeks & so far it has been amazing. Heats my room quite well & the Eco/thermostat function keeps it toasty no matter the temperature in the rest of the house. Because there is no forced air, my skin doesn’t get dry. It is very quiet, so perfect for use at night. Came very well packaged with no assembly needed other than putting the provided batteries in the remote. Love the handy dim button on the remote to turn most of the LED display off.
Purchased two Oct 2025. Was hesitant to trust 5 stars with only 25 reviews. Was hesitant to pay $140 each. I own a bunch of dial type and a Hykolity digital. Hykolity not bad for my 1st digital as a test heater for digital type but problem is its not built to last. Id advised against buying the Hykolity. Many complaints of it failing within 1st winter. Thats really bad. Ive owned two dial types that still work after over 20 years. My Hykolity stopped working after 3 months of use. Took off thermostat cover and luckily was just a loose connection. Many not that lucky. You can tell the Hykolity is cheap out of the box. Hykolity support is non existant. Supposed to have a 1 year warranty but its a lie. I tried. With dial type lasting decades shouldnt have an issue in 3 months. Plenty of reviews of Hykolity failures.
Dial type are a solid buy but you have to constsntly adjust the dial. Sometimes multiple times a day. Its highly common for room to be to hot or to cold. With digital you dont have that problem because you can set digital to specific degrees. Digital type have smart thermostats that turn off and on maintaining room temperature you set.
On to Dreo
Dreo is built solid. Comes fully assembled. Wheels fold in and out. Has a carry handle that likely can be used even with warm/hot fins. If you dont own digital you are missing out. You can tell right out of the box how well built the Dreo is. Remote comes with a battery. The digital display will show with lights on but in the dark the digital display turns off. Like most oil heaters this has 3 settings low-med-high so wont go into it much other than these settings control how much wattage you are pulling. I usually stick with lowest wattage settings with all oil heaters and then set the temp to the degree I want. You can set specific degrees. It has Eco mode where the heater automatically adjusts the power it needs. Has a 24h timer you can set to shut off. Has child lock. Also has an ambiamt temperature bar. Not really sure what its for but it looks pretty. Manual says ambient indicator is to let you see temperature condition from a distance. You can turn it off if you dont like it. Over heat protection. Has a mute button if you dont like audible beeping when adjusting. Remote is nice but it is line of site. I use the same remote for both of my Dreo heaters. Dreo powers off when desired temp is reached meaning its energy efficient. Also I love how it looks. It looks and feels quality built.
Sorry so long. Just wanted to go into detail for those without oil heaters and those with dial type that have considered digital. I did buy a 4 year extended warranty to be safe. Hopefully I wont need it.
Short power cord
This heater is working great on ECO mode to heat my living room (12×12 foot approximately). Took one star away for poor design. There is a warning in the packaging that this unit should only be plugged directly into a wall outlet, and not share that outlet with any other device. That seems reasonable, but the power cord is only 5 or 6 feet long, and comes off the front of the heater, so to get it 3 feet from any furniture we have to use the full length of the cord, which causes the display panel to be pointed at the corner of the room. If you have wall space that allows for that 3 foot clearance without using the full length of the cord, you will love this heater.
