Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersMakes Documentation Irretrievable
Does a good job of rendering documents irretrievable. At one point I ran the shredder for 15 minutes continuously shredding some old documentation without a problem. Shredding is relatively quiet, and the basket holds quite a bit of shredded material. In one instance I did manage to choke the feed with too many pages. The system recognized the overload, halted, and backed the pages back out automatically before I could hit the reverse button. Have not had occasion to shred a CD or credit cards. System says it can handle staples and small paperclips, but everything I’ve run through has been without metal fasteners (and probably never will have metal fasteners as a general rule). Instructions say to not shred window or insulated envelopes, continuous forms, newsprint, bound pages, transparencies, laminated documents, cardboard, items with adhesives, or plastic (credit cards and CD’s are ok). Our recycler wants shredded documents bagged. A full basket can be a bit awkward to empty into a bag, and some of the document flakes leaked out the hole in the back of the basket till I positioned my hand over the hole when emptying. The first delivery of my shredder from Amazon was broken, and did not include the basket portion, just the cover (pretty sure it didn’t come from the factory that way). The basket does not seem sturdy, like it can handle a lot of abuse. For my first delivery, I’m guessing someone returned a broken shredder and Amazon sent it back out to me. Replacement shredder seems complete, and works just fine. Picture shows basket, cover, hole, and some shredded documents.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersThis thing is a beast!
The last couple of days I’ve been cleaning out! Lots of old account statements, bills, tax returns and other files that needed to go. Although I’ve had this shredder for over two years, this is the first real test I have given it. It took on everything I threw at it and did it quietly with seemingly no strain at all. It says it’s rated for twelve sheets at a time. I had a lot to shred and was pushing it, not really counting pages. There were plenty of times I know I was feeding it beyond its twelve page rating. Didn’t heat up, didn’t stop, and didn’t even slow down.

This machine would probably not be suitable for a business environment, mostly because with multiple users, the bin would require too frequent emptying. But for a one or two person home office, it’s perfect.

Golden Review Award: 109 From Our UsersQuiet and seemingly runs foreve
I was looking for a shredder to replace my very old GBC Shredmaster strip-cut shredder, which was adequate for low security work, but left the papers easily reassembled and only ran for less than 10 minutes before needing to cool down. I chose the Aurora AU1210MA based on a recent Consumer Reports review which rated it a 70 vs. the Fellowes Powershred LX22M at 89, but the latter costs more than three times as much and only has a 30 minute run time vs. the Aurora’s 60 minutes. The only other higher scorers were the Tru Red TR-NMC122A (scoring 72), which was about the same price and was rated slightly better for noise but it has a 5 minute run time followed by a 60 minute cool-down, and the Amazon Basics 8 sheet Microcut (scoring 71), costing quite a bit less, but it also has a 5 minute run time (with a 30 minute recovery period).

The Aurora arrived very well-packaged in a sturdy box with tight-fitting cardboard inserts that completely protected it from damage. It was not inside of a second box, and there was no need for one. It was easy to assemble and was more compact than I expected it to be. It weighs about 22 lbs, most of which is in the shredding head. The wheels make it easy to move around. I’m not sure if it would work with shredder bags, due to the bin layout, but I’m emptying it into a 30 gallon paper lawn/leaf bag so I can meet my county’s requirements for curbside recycling of shredded documents, which prohibit plastic bags. The large opening of these paper bags makes it easy to empty the bin without spilling any confetti.

I’ve now been shredding old records containing sensitive information like Social Security numbers for several days and this is what I’ve noticed: the Aurora has never stopped working, despite some long shredding sessions and some thick sheafs of paper, and it has yet to jam. I’ve nearly filled a 30 gallon bag. It is very quiet, despite Consumer Reports rating it as a 3/5. My only minor complaint is that the bin isn’t quite as sturdy as the rest of the unit, and requires a bit of care when reinstalling to make sure it is aligned properly so it will close completely. One thing I noticed from reading the owner’s manual is that it can be oiled using ordinary vegetable oil — no need to buy special purpose shredder lube or pre-treated sheets. That should save money over the long run. I’ve not oiled it yet, since it’s just a few days old. I have shredded some stapled documents with no problems. I haven’t tried any credit cards or CDs yet.

I think that this shredder will give me many years of service and I’m very happy with my purchase. While I would have loved to own CR’s highest-scoring unit, I couldn’t justify spending around $400 for it and I really appreciate that the Aurora has the best rated endurance of any of the models I considered.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersGreat purchase!
Haven’t had it for long but it is being used a lot for purging years and years worth of documents. It’s been amazing, quiet, no jams, no problems and easy to empty the basket. Thus far, this has been a great purchase!

    Shred away!!
This is by far the best shredder we have ever purchased. The lower level type (cheaper ones) would stop working after a lot of shredding. The small ones do have their limitations.

This machine has a good basket size, shreds paper into very small pieces, have an automatic feeder which is great, and takes quite a few sheet of paper at a time. We usually did about 6 sheets at a time as the paper we use is quite thick (states it can do 12). Its not very noisy… its a shredder so of course there is some level of noise. Have used it multiple times now and ran it close to an hour each time we used it and no jamming, overheating or stopping. Very good product and would highly recommend. (we are also applying the oil (vegetable oil) to the shredder blades as recommended in the instructions, to ensure we properly maintain it).

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersWOW - The absolute best shredder I've purchased!
Definitely a top notch paper shredder. During the pandemic we decided to do a bit of “Swedish death cleaning” and among the things to get rid of were a couple of 4 drawer file cabinets with every drawer stuffed. Our “current” shredder still works, but with some digging I found it is only rated for 2 minutes of shredding with 15 minutes to “cool down”. Using it to clear out old records would take months at that rate (which is one reason it kept piling up).

When I found this Aurora AU1210MA with a shred time of 60 minutes, I knew it would allow me shred theses files as I went through them instead of piling up papers to shred later or haul off and pay to have shredded. It is rated to shred up to 12 pages at a time for 60 minutes at a time. I generally try to feed no more than 6 pages at a time (not by counting, but just the feel of the total thickness) and also listen to the motor so I don’t stress the motor or drive mechanism. It’s very quiet, far quieter than any of the 5 or 6 cheaper ($50-$75) shredders we have owned with all previous ones either breaking some plastic gear or overheating and locking up (not while using, but after the fact).

So the highlights why I gave this 5 stars

    1 – 60 minute run time

2 – auto shut-off when the bin is full or not fully closed

    3 – auto shut-off if it overheats

    4 – auto shut-off if it overloads

The full bin shut-off is really nice on the Aurora because what happened with most of our others was that the bin would fill, then paper would jam in the cutters and get smashed all up inside the top of the shredder which would require lots of digging, prying, and / or disassembly to clear it out.

Additionally this will shred credit cards and CDs. I did shred a couple of credit cards and like the paper, it turns them into little arrows about 1/2″ long x 3/16″ wide with a point at one end and a forked tail at the other.

I certainly hope this shredder continues to hold up because I am very satisfied and expect to get many years of service out of it.

I needed a break before the shredder did!
I bought this shredder for use in a small office. We’re required to keep records for seven years, so once a year there’s a large pile of eight-year-old records to be shredded. Previous low-cost shredders over-heated after ten minutes and needed long cool-down periods. I decided it was time to pay more to get a shredder that would work longer. The Aurora AU1210MA was rated for 60 minutes’ continuous use, and the price was acceptable.

When the machine arrived, I wanted to see if the 60 minutes was for real, so I sat down with the shredder and a pile of records. 3 hours and 18 minutes later, the shredder was still going, but I’d had enough, so I congratulated the shredder on its victory and went home for supper. 🙂 The machine isn’t too loud and runs smoothly. It ate file folders, staples and a paper clip without any trouble. I *did* find that I needed to empty the bin every15-20 minutes, and bits of electrocharged paper tended to escape as I transferred the contents of the bin to a large garbage bag. This is a minor issue, however. I’m really pleased with this shredder!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersGreat Shredde
I’ve had this shredder for a few months now and so far it has not disappointed me. It’s fast and reasonably low-noise and can shred several pages at a time without difficulty. Of course it’s a small shredder so the bin fills up fast, but I knew that when I bought it. It is used in a small home office with a fairly low volume of papers being shredded weekly, so my use is pretty light. I cannot say how it will hold up if you are a high-volume shredder of documents daily, but like I said, no problems thus far.

    Increible
