There are quite a few rooms in my house where I don't have a TV and sometimes I just want to get away and watch some YouTube videos, some TV shows, and wish I had a TV in those rooms. But I don't want to mount them.
This is where this device shines. As soon as I got it, I plugged it in turned it on and the first thing I got was a notice that a firmware update was available. I went ahead and did the firmware update it took about 10 minutes. Most importantly, if you know anything about computers, which this is exactly what it is except it has a projector on it, Don't unplug the unit when you're doing the firmware update. I sat patiently as the firmware completed and then rebooted the system.
For the price, this can't be beat. The first place I used it was in my bedroom. I pointed it straight towards the ceiling and was able to get about a 100 in projection onto my white ceiling. As I was laying in bed I was able to watch TV without having to strain my neck. The picture quality was very good, although not perfect, but way better than I expected. you have to carefully adjust the focus lens in the front which is a simple dial around the front of the projector. There are some settings to tweak in the software which is relatively easy to use. So far, I've only used it with YouTube videos. I installed the app via the simple menu and signed in. The speaker volume is excellent! It does have the capability of connecting to Bluetooth speakers, but I didn't really need to do that I just wanted to be able to hear it and watch my videos wherever I wanted to.
I will be loading other apps so I can watch other things, but for the price again this can't be beat
It would be nice if this ran on battery power, but I have some simple DC battery powered inverters and this runs fine I am not sure of the overall power consumption, but it does get warm due to the projector lamp. Definitely make sure it is getting vented properly. I also like the fact that it has an HDMI input, so I will use this whenever I have to do a presentation at my job.
Simply plug your laptop into the HDMI port and the video will pass through.
It's really hard to find faults in this product especially for this price.
Get one!
If you truly want to get the best picture possible, obviously use a projector screen. I plan on getting an outdoor screen so I can use this in our yard and have movie night.
I also love the fact on how compact this is.
Maybe one other improvement would be a longer power cord, but extension cords are easily available. Some people may not like a longer cord, which would make it harder to store. I think it would be kind of cool if it had USB c power, but maybe a future model might. That's definitely not a deal breaker.
I am going to shop around for a little case so I can put it in and I can easily travel with it.
I can also see us using this when camping or even going to hotels that don't have great TVs.
