How To Keep Cast Iron Grate In Good State?
For first time use, it is recommended to pre-season:
1.) Once the cooking grid is clean, use a kitchen or paper towel to coat it with a thin layer of heat-resistant oil, which with a high smoking point, such as coconut oil or grapeseed oil.
2). Make sure you're coating the entire grates: exterior, bottom, sides and all.
3). Place the grates in the oven at a high temperature of up to 350, allow it to burn for 40 minutes to an hour to ensure the oil penetrates the grates. It will form ester compounds and fatty acids, which can form a layer of oil film on the wall of the grate, which plays the role of isolating water in the air and preventing the cooking grates from rusting and sticking.
4). Once cool, store your cast iron grates in a dry place.
(The first few times you use new grates, opt for fat-heavy preparations, like frying chicken or bacon, to kick-start it is a well-seasoned journey.)
5). Rub the oil before cooking for prevent food sticking.
6). Let the grill grates cool before washing.
7). Hand washing recommended, washing in hot soapy water with sponge, kitchen towel or stiff brush. (Don not scratch away the cooking surface.) And dry immediately after washing.
8.) If it is not used for a long time, the recommended storage method is: after cleaning, dry it thoroughly on the grill or oven with medium heat, the heat will be enough to get rid of any residual moisture, and finally coat the grate with a layer of saturated fat oil. Re-season every few months as needed.
