What’s Radon?
Radon is a naturally occurring, colorless, and odorless radioactive gas. When uranium in the soil or water decomposes, radon gas can accumulate in homes, schools, or businesses as it seeps through cracks in the foundation or other natural openings in the structure.
Prolonged exposure to elevated radon levels significantly increases the risk of lung cancer. Smokers are at higher risk of developing radon-induced lung cancer. There are no immediate symptoms from exposures to radon. Lung cancer would usually occur years (5-25) after exposure.
Monitoring methods and duration:
The first step is to turn on the power and set the time, units and alarms. After selecting the ideal position, allow the unit to acclimatize for 10 minutes.
It is recommended that the precision instrument should be used continuously for 48-72 hours during the monitoring period to obtain more effective and stable values. For health assessment of the environment, it is recommended to refer to the radon data monitored for 90 days to one year.
Notes on Measurement:
Radon gas typically seeps into homes through cracks in the foundation. It’s recommended to place the detector in areas where radon is more likely to accumulate, such as basements, garages, or ground-level rooms.
To ensure accurate readings, avoid placing the device in environments with strong light, high temperatures, high humidity, frequent movement, or vibrations, as these conditions may affect its performance.
FAQs:
Q: What does it mean when the screen shows “–” instead of data?
A: Measurement result not yet available. This typicaly occurs when the device is just furned on, or after a data reset Please wait atleast 10 minutes for the first reading.
Q: The reading seems too high?
A: ①The device is tested with radon gas before shipping, which may cause high initial readings. If so, use a fan to blow air into the inlet, then take a new measurement.
②Retest after stabilizing the device. Movement may affect the first reading.
Q: Does high humidity affect measurements?
A: Yes. lf air humidity exceeds 80%, the system will enter protection mode and display “0”. You can solve the problem by placing desiccant in the bottom air inlet or furning on the dehumidifier.
